| No e-mail available | | Description | | The Pontifical Urbaniana University is an institution of the Catholic Church and owes its origin to the Urban College, founded by Pope Urban VIII on the 1st of August 1627 with the Bull “Immortalis Dei Filius”. Since then the University was granted the same privileges as the Studium Urbis, now known as “Università La Sapienza”, which could confer doctorate degrees. The Urbaniana was only raised to the status of ‘Pontifical University’ on the 1st of October 1962, just a few days before the beginning of the Second Vatican Council, with the Motu Proprio “Fidei Propagandae” by the Blessed John XXIII, however, ever since its foundation, this institution has fulfilled a specific academic function.
