| No e-mail available | | Description | | The University of Birjand (UOB) was established in 1958 upon the approval of the 102nd session of the Council for Expansion of Higher Education of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology of Iran as an institute of higher education in the region. It began activities with 3 departments (mathematics, physics and chemistry) within the Faculty of Science. In 1997, the university was upgraded and renamed to the University of Birjand.
After the victory of the Islamic Revolution the university collaborated actively with the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology towards the higher education programs in harmony with Cultural Revolution principles. Furthermore, tied to the mission of regional and global development programs in a region with an excellent reputation in scientific and cultural fields, the university went through a series of reforms in education and research policies which put forward a new era in its activities. At present, University of Birjand offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs for more than 6000 students in 132 disciplines. There are more than 200 academic staff involved with the programs.
The University consists of 6 engineering departments, 5 agricultural departments, 8 humanities departments, 5 science departments, 2 art departments and 7 research centers. These departments and centers have been structured in 5 faculties within 5 campuses.
The collaboration program between the university and the overseas universities is a new dimension of activity, which has recently begun at an international level.
The Present Status
The main campus (Pardis) now houses faculty of science, faculty of letters and humanities, the president’s office and all administrative sections of the University. This includes the four Vice-presidents’ offices for personnel and finance, for academic affairs, for student affairs, and for research & technology. The central Library, seismography center, sports centre, 3 student dormitories, student union, swimming pool, shops, banks and the university mosque. The office of joint university & industry collaboration and the office of international and inter-university affairs are also located at the Pardis campus. Faculties of engineering and arts & archeology are located in two separate campuses within downtown area. Faculty of Agriculture is located in the western part of the city in a large campus including all facilities, experimental fields and relevant laboratories.
