| No e-mail available | | Description | | Osh State University (OSU) was established in 1992 upon the reputation and foundation of Osh Pedagogical Institute, which was organized in 1951. From 1951 to 1992 the Institute was responsible for educating over 25,000 teachers in a wide range of academic specialities, including 2000 teachers of English.
In the 1994-95 academic year, OSU had 6,642 graduate and undergraduate students enrolled. The student body of OSU includes Kyrgyz, Uzbeks, Russians, Tadjiks, Tartars, Turks, Ukrainians and students of many other nationalities and ethnic groups studying together. At present, there are also a number of OSU students studying at overseas institutions, including some in the United States.
The city of Osh provides a unique setting for the urban campus of OSU. At the heart of this picturesque city lies the OSU administrative services and humanities departments, with the remaining departments located throughout the city.
OSU is the leading educational, cultural and scientific center of southern Kyrgyzstan. The faculties of the University prepare specialists to respond to all the region's needs. The University sows the seeds of science and domocracy that will bloom throughout the country.
