| No e-mail available | | Description | | Vidzeme University College in Latvia (Latvian: Vidzemes augstskola) enrolled its first students in the Autumn of 1996. It was founded for promoting economic, political and social development of the region, providing higher education in the Vidzeme Region (Latvia).
At present there are 1325 students studying at Vidzeme University College. The academic staff consists of 50 full time teachers, and the administrative staff consists of 56 people. This stimulates flexibility and efficient use of resources and promotes good fellowship between the staff and the students.
On January 1, 2001, Vidzeme University College changed its status from a regional governmental institution to a state university college. In Latvian Vidzeme University College is called Vidzemes augstskola, indicating that it is not a full-fledged university, but an institution of higher education offering education at a university level without the variety and size of a full-fledged university, but an institution of higher education offering education at a degree level without the veriety and size of a full-fledged university. That is the reason it is called Vidzeme University College in English.
The university offers a higher professional education, equal to Bachelor’s degree, and Master’s studies. Currently Vidzeme University College offers five higher education professional study programmes: Business Administration, Information Technology, Communication and Public Relations, Political Science, Tourism Organisation and Management. The graduation diplomas are eligible for Master’s studies in Latvia and abroad. In 2004 the first professional Master’s study programmes were launched: Public Administration and Strategic Tourism Administration, and a college type two-year programme in Information Technology.
Vidzeme University College is well known for its international profile, highly qualified academic staff and balanced link between treory and practice. It is an independent centre of higher education and scientific research providing modern, high quality, competitive higher education, successfully cooperating with partners in Latvia and abroad. This allows it to undertake successful organization of international projects such as Baltic International Summer School which is organized for the 7th time this summer and also scientific conferences, including the Baltic Studies Conference in Europe.
