| Contact this school | | Description | | The University of Vic (UVic), recognised by the Catalan Parliament's Law 5/1997, of 30 May, is a private university providing a public service. UVic is subject to Organic Law 6/2001, of 21 December, and Law 1/2003, of 20 February; the regulations established by the state and by the Catalan Government within their powers, by its own Organisational and Functional Rules and by the rules applicable to the "Fundació Universitària Balmes", the UVic Board of Governors.
It is a Catalan university, based in the city of Vic. Its location in Vic does not mean it may not expand its activities to cover other regions as is natural to any university.
The University is devoted to higher education and research, providing undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education. It supports the fundamental principle of university autonomy, which is reflected in the academic freedom afforded to teachers, researchers and students.
The University of Vic comprises faculties, schools, departments, institutes, services and other bodies. Together, these foster and promote study, scientific and humanistic research, education and professional training for the social, cultural and economic progress of society in general.
Its guiding principles are those of all free societies: liberty, democracy, justice, equality, solidarity and diversity. The university community, and especially its governing organs, must strive to apply these principles.
The University endeavours to create and disseminate culture and learning, as a means of progress towards a juster society. As a Catalan university, it lays special emphasis on the national interest of Catalonia, while also striving to foster the universal spirit which is so vital to the concept of university.
