| No e-mail available | | Description | | Alafua Campus, on the outskirts of Apia, provides the base for the School of Agriculture and Food Technology(SAFT), the Institute for Research, Extension and Training in Agriculture (IRETA) and for hundreds of students studying a wide range of courses by distance and flexible learning (DFL) mode.
Agriculture and Food Technology is the foundation of economic development in the Pacific. It is both traditional and dynamic, with subsistence farming supporting the majority of families and innovative commercial enterprises developing export markets. Improvement in both subsistence and export agriculture requires adequately trained personnel. For this, education at a variety of levels is essential; at school for children who return to the family farm; at college and university for future staff of governments, development institutions and businesses, and at the community level, through continuing education and training, for all involved in agriculture. The School of Agriculture and Food Technology and the Institute for Research, Extension and Training in Agriculture (IRETA) aim to provide this training.
Distance and flexible learning at Alafua offers the opportunity to gain a higher education through a variety of modes and technologies. The flexible aspect lets students fit tertiary study into their own schedule, in a learning mode that best suits them. About 150 pre-degree and undergraduate courses are offered each semester by one of the DFL modes: print, video, video-broadcast or internet. DFL support at Alafua includes face-to-face and/or satellite tutorials, as well as access to computer facilities, the internet and email, access to a library of texts relevant to your courses, and a wide range of other services. | | Alternate language description | | Not Available | | Areas of study | | Agriculture Botany and Forestry Science, Philosophy, Education | | Language of instruction | Type of School | | Samoan, English | Public University | | Type of studies | Accreditation | | University Degree Program, Graduate, Professional Programs |
