El 13 de junio de 1623, la Audiencia y el Arzobispo reconocieron el Breve Pontificio y la Real Cédula que autorizaban los grados académicos en el Colegio que la Compañia de Jesús había establecido en Santafé desde 1604. Entonces, los alumnos que de tiempo atrás allí habían estudiado, entre ellos Pedro Claver, recibieron su grado. Debe recordarse que los alumnos del Colegio Seminario de San Bartolomé, fundado por el Arzobispo Lobo Guerrero en 1605 y encomendado a los jesuitas desde entonces, estudiaban también en el Colegio de la Compañía.
