Sookmyung Women’s University, which was founded on May 22nd, 1906 by Empress Sonheon of the Chosun Dynasty as the nation’s first women’s private institution, has recently celebrated its Centenary Anniversary. Standing at the crossroads where our accomplishment of the first hundred years must meet the challenges of the next century, we are aiming to become the top notch leadership university in the world and to produce 10% of our national leaders from our SMU graduates by 2020. In our knowledge based society we need the qualities like delicate sensitivity and flexible thinking which can contribute in transforming our world as well in bringing necessary social development. We believe that it’s our mission to raise women leaders in each sector of our society who have creative knowledge, futuristic skill, service-oriented attitude, healthy body and sound mind. We believe that we can achieve our mission by thriving towards it continuously and adding all our collective powers to our common cause.
