Estudios Hispánicos is the Centre at the Universitat de Barcelona which offers courses of Spanish as a foreign language. There are both Spanish language and Spanish culture courses on offer.
The duration can be annual, quarterly, bimonthly or monthly during the academic year In summer, the courses can last a fortnight, one month or two months.
Estudios Hispánicos is also the unit responsible for organizing and teaching of Spanish as an instrumental language to the students of the Universitat de Barcelona taking part in European programmes (ERASMUS-SOCRATES-TEMPUS) or in specific exchanges.
Estudios Hispánicos is also responsible for the implementation of the exams for Spanish as a Foreign language (Diplomas de Español Lengua Extranjera D.E.L:E.) called by the Instituto Cervantes. In the same way, Estudios Hispánicos designs, organizes and teaches courses for groups with specific needs and requirements. All courses in Estudios Hispánicos allow to obtain European Union university accreditation, based on the European credit system (European Credits Transfer System). These credits are known under the name of ECTS's.
This credit system is based in the learning process of the student. For that reason, every credit takes into account the global work of the student, both in terms of number of class hours attended as well as the time invested in their individual preparation.
Every European credit, ECTS, corresponds to a student global workload of between 25 to 30 hours.
