is a one-year MSc programme designed for scientists and engineers who plan to apply their knowledge to the energy sector of developing countries.
About 180 participants from 50 countries in all continents have successfully completed the programme. MSC PROGRAMME
The Postgraduate Programme in Renewable Engergy enables scientists and engineers who intend to work in Third World countries to plan and
design energy supply systems based on renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind energy, biomass,and hydro power.
A second aim of the programme is the transfer of knowledge to the academic staff of universities in developing countries. Lectures, seminars and lab classes
are held by University of Oldenburg staff and external experts invited to give compact seminars.
ADMISSION:
Applicants must be graduates of four-year BSc (or equivalent) programmes in science or engineering, with good grades and at preferably
two years of professional experience in the field of energy systems. Certification of proficiency in English must be submitted.
Of 100 applications received, 18 are accepted.
PROGRAMME CONTENT:
Topics addressed are: Scientific principles of renewable energy sources; Technical feasability of renewable energy systems; Economic conditions for the
use of renewable energy; Components of small-scale energy supply systems; Analysis,simulation and design of energy supply systems; Case studies: analysis
and design of selected small-scale energy supply projects in remote areas; Contacts with companies and organisations in the field of renewable energy sources;
Experimental work and thesis on a subject related to the participant's future occupation.
INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION:
Current agreements with universities in Chile and Zimbabwe enable the exchange of staff and students.
The implementation of MSc programmes in partner universities is a primary goal.
FEES:
There are no tuition fees for this programme.However, students are responsible for housing costs and course-related materials
