Bryn Mawr College is a women's liberal arts college, operating in Bryn Mawr, a community in Lower Merion Township, ten miles away of Philadelphia. The phrase bryn mawr means 'big hill' in Welsh. The school is known to be a small, four year, highly residential baccalaureate college. It receives about 1300 undergraduate and 450 graduate students. The college offers a wide variety of disciplines, but most students are enrolled in the undergraduate arts & sciences program. Students at the institution are required to complete divisional requirements in the social sciences, natural sciences and humanities as well as a foreign language requirement and a quantitative skills one.
