IES is a Chicago-based, non-profit academic consortium, founded in 1950. It is USA’s biggest and one of the most renowned providers of study abroad programs. Each year it enrolls over 5,500 students from 185 U.S. colleges and universities, making available about 100 high-quality academic study programs and internship opportunities in 34 cities over Europe, Africa, Asia, South America, Australia, and New Zealand. The organization points the safety of students as its highest priority, for which reason it employs a full-time Dean of Students, who is responsible for creating and monitoring the health and safety guidelines for each of the programs. All students are required to have international health insurance, while a plan of evacuation for students has also been set in place in case of natural disasters, terrorist actions, etc.
