The Institute of Spanish Studies is a specialized organization, founded in 1950, in cooperation with the Universities of San Francisco and Valencia. In 1985 the Institute became an independent program, while currently it is associated with Longwood University of Virginia. The institute’s prime aim is to offer college students, teachers, and other individuals the opportunity to gain an in-depth knowledge of the Spanish culture and language. All of the classes in Valencia are held at the American Institute, with its own fully equipped premises. A number of cultural activities and the opportunity to speak with native speakers is provided, too. Credits for the courses taken at the Institute of Spanish Studies may be obtained directly from the Institute of Spanish Studies or through Longwood University.
