  • Professional Competence.  Graduates will demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to succeed in their chosen profession.  
  • Foundation for Lifelong Learning.  Graduates will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary for lifelong learning, including competence in communication, critical and creative thinking, quantitative and scientific reasoning, and the ability to evaluate, integrate, and apply knowledge from multiple perspectives when making decisions and solving problems.

Community Service

A priority at Johnson & Wales University is developing students who have the skills and training to be leaders in industry and in their communities.  As an example, in the 2012-13 school year, JWU students performed more than 240,000 hours of community service.
Johnson & Wales University has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll—the highest federal recognition that institutions of higher education can receive for supporting community service and service-learning programs — every year since the award was instituted.

Community Collaborations

Through a range of business and community collaborations, Johnson & Wales University supports public schools and a wide variety of nonprofit organizations in each of their campus markets, as well as environmental organizations and police and fire departments.

Business & Economic Development

Since the year 2000, Johnson & Wales University has invested nearly $400 million in construction and renovation projects across its four campuses.  
At the campus level, spending in these areas supported regional job markets, creating nearly 3,800 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs in Rhode Island, 743 FTE jobs in Florida, 545 FTE jobs in Colorado and 580 FTE jobs in North Carolina.
In addition to having a strong overall economic impact, Johnson & Wales University is also committed to historic renovation and urban revitalization.
