Named after Alexander Macleay, the Colonial Secretary of New South Wales in the 1820s, Macleay College has, since its establishment, built a strong reputation for excellence on a name that has been held in high esteem for almost two centuries. It’s rather fitting that Macleay College should lead the way as a premier Australian learning institute across a diverse range of studies, as Alexander Macleay himself excelled in a number of different fields—a fact reflected in the way New South Wales has honored his name.

From the Macleay Museum at the University of Sydney to the Macleay Street in Potts Point, and through to the Macleay River, this pioneer’s family name has been blazoned across places of high distinction and Macleay College is proud to be one of them.
