The University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee is one of two public doctoral research universities in the state, offering comprehensive liberal arts and professional education through the means of 180 majors and degree programs.
The English as a Second Language Program (ESL) at the university makes available two specialized programs for students, whose first language is not English. One is the Intensive English Program, which offers intensive, concentrated learning for 20 hours every week, including Listening, Reading and Writing (all available at a more advanced level, too). The other option made available is ESL writing courses, which earn university credit. In these students cover similar material as native speakers, but also acquire the skills necessary to succeed in their university education.
