Virginia Western Community College is a public institution, which services the area of Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, southern Botetourt County, and northern Franklin County. It is a two-year college, offering day, evening, and weekend classes on its main campus and on other locations in its area. The college was established in 1966, and has experienced substantial growth since then.
It is worth mentioning that the college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award associate degrees. Finally, The College is a member of the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) and is also approved by the State Council of Higher Education (SCHEV).
