There are a variety of sports played and watched in Spain; football is perhaps the most popular. The top football league in Spain is called La Liga and it is on par with the English Premier League. Clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona have a huge fan base across the world.

Spain won the FIFA World Cup in 2010, the Spaniards went into a frenzy soon after Spain became the world champions, many people took to the streets and celebrated the victory and this goes to show the importance of football in Spain. Spain also made history by lifting the Euro 2012 trophy becoming the only country to win 3 major competitions in a row.

Futsal is another very popular sport in Spain, the sport resembles football but it is a little different from football. The Spanish national team is as good at Futsal as they are at football. The Spanish Futsal team conquered the world twice by winning the FIFA Futsal World Cup in 2000 and 2004; some of the best players compete in the FIFA Futsal World Cup.

Basketball is also an incredibly popular sport in Spain, Real Madrid and Barcelona not only have football teams but they also have basketball teams. The top basketball players compete in the Spanish ACB league, this league is one of the most prestigious leagues in the world. It also happens to be one of the best leagues in Europe. There are quite a few Spanish players who are locking horns with the best players by playing in the NBA. Pau Gasol and his brother in Marc Gasol both play in the NBA and it is a very significant achievement.

Tennis is another sport which is played and thoroughly enjoyed by the Spanish; Rafael Nadal hails from Spain and has won several major trophies. The player has also won several accolades representing his country. Nadal is only the second Spanish player to have ever won the very prestigious Wimbledon trophy, this is no ordinary feat. Nadal has grown in stature over the last 5 years, he is now considered to be the best tennis player of his generation.

Handball is also a very popular sport in Spain; Barcelona has a handball team as well. The best handball league in Spain is called The Spanish Liga ASOBAL, only the best players’ play in this league.

The Spanish also like Motorsports, Fernando Alonso hails from Spain and he is already a motorsport legend in Spain. Alonso is a two-time world champions and he currently drives for Ferrari.

The Spanish enjoy playing almost every sport but they also excel in sports like football, motorsports, tennis, handball and basketball.
