La Caña adjective
Term used in slang expressions of youth, as indicative of a situation or condition great, great. Example: John passes the cane when going out drinking with his friends.
La Leche noun
Something impressive or greatly unpleasant. Example: The young Spanish used often to talk to each other, the term: milk.
La Liga noun
The League refers to the official football league in Spain.
Las cosas de palacio van despacio saying
Literal translation:” the palace’s affairs move slowly." People use this phrase as a way of confirmation that a particular issue is moving rather slowly, such as it would occur when dealing with any bureaucracy. Example: "Things are going slowly palace" is a Spanish saying which dates from the early reactions antimonarchist twentieth century.
Lepanto, La Batalla de (the Battle of ) noun
In 1571, a Christian alliance formed by the Vatican, Spain and Venice, named “the Holy Alliance,” fought and gained victory under Don John of Austria (half brother of the king of Spain Felipe II) over Ottoman forces. In this battle, Miguel de Cervantes, author of Don Quixote, fought as a soldier. As results of the wounds suffered in the battle, he lost the use of his left arm. Cervantes has been known since then as “el manco de Lepanto” (the one-handed man of Lepanto). Example: The Battle of Lepanto is one of the most evoked anniversaries in the history of Spain.
Levantar cabeza, no saying
Literally means not to lift one’s head. When someone “no levanta cabeza” it means that the person has one problem after another. He or she is not able to get back on his or her feet.
Liarse la manta a la cabeza saying
Expression indicating a makeshift proceed "blindly", without considering the consequences. Example: When young people fall in love, immediately bundled the blanket to the head and insist on getting married without getting to know in depth.
Llegar y besar el santo saying
Within the context of popular speech, a figurative level, this term refers to the ease and free to be lavished with a situation for a person who has sought to provoke or to carry out. This refers to the saint with a tinge of humor, perhaps because the tradition of pilgrimage of faith, to which the faithful devoted countless hours of preparation, to finally reach the pastor or priest assigned, and begin the procession, kissing the saint. This explains the figurative sense of "consecution of an achievement, without any effort." Example: Paul was accustomed to join the study group and always get the best rating, with only here and kiss the saint.
Llevar por la calle de la amargura saying
It is a colloquial expression that indicates the mood of sorrow and burden of a person involuntarily must undergo a sorrowful situation, there is said to be "brought", indicating that it has been "dragged." Example: Despot of a husband's attitude had always been on the streets of bitterness.
Llorica noun
A crybaby. Example: The fellow did not attend much to Marcel, because it was known as a crybaby heavy and unbearable.
Los Serrano idiom
Los Serrano is a hit Spanish TV comedy series with the story centered around a newly formed family, the friends of the family, the brother in law and grandmother. The husband has 3 sons from his previous marriage and his wife has two daughters from her previous marriage. The result is total chaos and a surplus of interesting characters and outrages storylines.
