Study in Kastanienbaum, Switzerland

The little-known town of Kastanienbaum is situated just on the west shore of Lake Lucerne in the center of the tiny nation of Switzerland. Located just on the edge of the Canton of Lucerne, it is a glimpse into holiday paradise, surrounded by larger cities that produce fine educational facilities for higher learning.

Unfortunately, Kastanienbaum itself is not home to many higher educational institutions. The town is, in fact, so small that it doesn’t possess any universities, colleges or higher education schools at all. This means Kastanienbaum, on its own, is a poor location for students seeking university or college-level studies. However, the surrounding cities to the north and west – such as Lucerne and Horw – are far more abundant in educational opportunities. Many of these schools specialize in certain areas, such as technology, architecture, applied sciences or tourism. The most famous university in the area is Hochschule Luzern, or the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

Kastanienbaum has the unique opportunity of locating just on the coast of Switzerland’s fourth largest lake. Surrounded by several lush mountains and valleys, it is a scenic getaway perfect for photographers, artists and nature lovers. The city is also close to many Paleolithic sites in the Canton of Lucerne. Boating, fishing, swimming and other water activities abound in the area, and holiday resorts are abundant just before the Alps.

Some other considerations for students seeking educational opportunities near Kastanienbaum include:
  • Majority of courses taught in German, some in French or other languages.
  • Limited higher education opportunities.

Major Fields of Study in Kastanienbaum

As stated above, Kastanienbaum itself is a very small settlement with no higher educational institutions calling the city home. However, the larger cities in the surrounding area do offer some accredited higher education courses. The fields of study are limited, however, and several studies manage more popularity than others.

Since the area around Kastanienbaum is close to the Alps, and an excellent stopping point between Germany and Italy, tourism is a significant economic factor. Studies in tourism are widely sought in the area. Thanks to the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, architecture, business and some art studies have also gained popularity. • Tourism, hotel management and hospitality
