Study in Jaén, Spain

Study in Jaén, Spain

The historic crossroads of Jaén have long been a meeting place for cultivated minds from around the world – not just a lovely place to shop for olive oil. Amidst the fairytale landscapes of Andalusia, this strong and noble city no longer stands guard for the King,  although it does protect impressive sources for higher education opportunities.

Jaén may not be swimming in colleges like Barcelona or Madrid, but the institutions that call this southern city home are nothing short of impressive. The most notable of these is the University of Jaén, which holds a solid and well-deserved place in the heart of the metropolis. Though relatively young compared to some other Spanish schools, it has quickly acquired a large student body and a glowing reputation.

Aside from the University of Jaén, there are actually very few educational institutions remaining in the city. There is a facility of the Consejo Dentistas, which focuses in areas of dentistry and orthodontics, but this may be the only other educational opportunity available for post-secondary students.

Students who love exploring historic sites will revel in Jaén. The Andalusian city is rich in preserved castles, Renaissance architecture and diverse religious landmarks. To escape the city life, visit the sweeping olive groves just outside the Jaén, the source of its famous olive oils. Relax at one of Jaén’s exquisite local bars after a day of football, or even take a dip in an eleventh century Arab bathhouse.

Some other considerations for students in Jaén include:
  • Majority of courses taught in Spanish.
  •  Sometimes poor traffic conditions.

Major Fields of Study in Jaén

Since Jaén’s major place of study is the University of Jaén, the options for majors is limited mostly to what the institution offers. Luckily, the university includes a number of faculties and technical colleges, so there is still a level of course diversity available to students. The school, however, has a significant focus in the sciences and technology, as well as locations in Úbeda and Linares.

Since there is a college of dentistry also harboring a facility in Jaén, this means orthodontic students can find their preferred field of study in this little Spanish city. Despite this, there are a handful of studies that are of primary preference in Jaén. These fields include:
  • Business
  • Education
  • Engineering
  • Technology

There are multiple majors available thanks to the University of Jaén, including hard-to-find degrees in experimental sciences (such degrees, like those in environmental science, have a high emphasis on research and exploration).

Schools of Jaén

There are very few higher education institutions, with the two most accessible being listed below. More colleges, academies or other institutions may exist within or just outside the city area. The southern city of Granada, for example, will have several more institutions.

  1. The University of Jaén is a public university and the main place to study in Jaén. With two satellite campuses, impressive subject departments and effective research facilities, the university focuses on small classrooms with intensive learning strategies and multilingual education.
  2. Consejo Dentistas or the Colegio Oficial de Odontologos y Estomatologos is an orthodontics college with a number of schools in Spain, including Jaén. It even supports a mobile dentist service unit in the form of a traveling bus and includes international clinical classroom experience.
