Study in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain

Spain’s private tropical paradise, the Canary Islands, have long been a fantastic tourist destination. The city of Las Palmas, however, is slowly changing the island chain from a simple vacation destination to a major commercial and educational landmark of Spain. With the implementation of new academic programs, this isolated city is quickly becoming a top location for eager students from around the world.

There are multiple colleges and universities based in the booming city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. While some of these colleges are public and established by the nation of Spain, other institutions are either international schools or campuses from foreign universities. Regardless of the type of institution, the general atmosphere of higher education in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is one of multidisciplinary education supported by essential research. Some schools are bilingual, though others are private Spanish colleges, while still others may teach only in English (these are usually schools established by Britain). However, some of these schools do not offer full post-secondary programs or accredited higher education degrees, and many of them have cut-off limitations at age 18.

The largest city in the Canary Islands, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria also has the largest selection of attractions and activities for students. With beautiful botanical gardens, fascinating museums, historical architecture and unique outdoor markets, there is plenty to see and buy. Students can dine at a tapas bar before traveling to one of the city’s nearby beaches, in order to try out island water sports like diving, swimming, surfing or sailing.

Other considerations for future students at schools in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria include:
  • Schools teach a majority in Spanish or English, with some bilingual institutions.
  • Somewhat high in scam rates.
