About Universities in Toronto, Canada

Toronto is an education-focused and progressive city with the most learned population in the entire world. The city is also a leader in academia at all learning levels. There are four universities in Toronto and all are publicly funded. These will be discussed in brief below.

The University of Toronto

University of Toronto (U of T) is the largest university in Canada. It is also among the leading research institutions in the globe. The Times Higher Education World University Ranking ranked the University as one of the top 20 learning institutions internationally in 2011-2012.

The university was founded in 1827 and it has more than 70,000 students. It has three main campuses; the historic St. George campus in downtown Toronto, and the other two in the nearby cities of Scarborough and Mississauga.

The university offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in different professional programs and disciplines. At the university, students can enjoy student organizations, on-campus housing, recreation, and athletics.

The Rotman School of Management is under the University of Toronto. This is a clear example of the many academic developments taking place in the city. The school is recognized internationally as one of the globe’s most innovative business learning institutions and it has undergone a lot of growth in the recent years. The expansion of the Rotman School of Management is a section of the $120 million, capital, education, and research project designed to improve the competitiveness of Canada and Ontario at the global level.

Ryerson University in Toronto

This university is located in downtown Toronto and it offers 34 bachelor and graduate programs, and a few others at the doctoral level. These programs are offered in the faculties of design, communication, community services, business management, engineering, arts, and many more. There are a number of student services available at the university, for instance, housing, learning support, career development, athletics, and mentor programs.

Ryerson University is a leader in innovation, and in research growth, it has been ranked first in Ontario and third in Canada.

York University in Toronto

This university was established in 1959 and it is currently the third biggest university in Canada. York University has two campuses; Glendon campus located on Toronto’s east side and Keele campus in uptown Toronto.
There are over 130 academic programs at York University. These programs include certificate, undergraduate, and graduate degree options. Learners have the opportunity of enrolling in the International Bachelor of Science or Arts degree programs and acquire experience while pursuing their education abroad.

The university offers a supportive academic and student community with a number of recreational activities, organizations, and clubs to take part in.

OCAD University in Toronto

This is one of Canada’s leading art and design learning institutions and it is situated in the heart of downtown Toronto. The university has continued to grow in popularity and status because of its unique programs, low student/faculty ratios, and innovative approach to learning. Its presence in the heart of Toronto is a huge contribution to the city’s cultural and creative renaissance.

Besides these universities, there are also four colleges in the city ad they are also publicly funded. These include Humber College, Seneca College, George Brown College, and Centennial College.
