The American University of Sharjah (AUS) was founded in 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Sharjah. The university, independent and not-for-profit, was designed based on American higher education institutions. AUS is a member of AAICU (Association of American International Colleges and Universities), an organization that guarantees the quality of American higher education outside the United States.
