Language education often forms a vital part in the life of students trying to settle in a foreign land. It provides the necessary impetus for students or young working professionals to settle into their new life easily. Knowing the language (at least a workable knowledge) that the locals communicate in, is essential if one wishes to absorb the different culture and gain a holistic, international experience! In the case of South Africa, it might be interesting to note that although English and Afrikaans are the principal modern communication languages; South Africa has as many as eleven official languages. This is a result of government policy for protecting native languages and culture.
Most South Africans are bilingual, and foreigners can easily get by knowing only English. Dutch and English were the official languages of South Africa until 1925, the same year when Afrikaans was added as part of Dutch. However, on becoming a republic in 1961, Afrikaans replaced Dutch as the official language. Even today these are the two main languages of commerce in the country.
Zulu, on the other hand, is the most widely spoken African language in South Africa. Over 10 million South Africans speak Zulu as their first language and even more as their second. This is the reason that most local, as well as international students and professionals, wish to learn Zulu in South Africa.
Although most South Africans take pride in using their native languages, both English and Afrikaans are used in most business, educational and political dealings. It is also worth noting that the majority of affluent South Africans speak Afrikaans and English. So visitors and international students will find that although learning Zulu or Afrikaans is not necessary to get by in South Africa, knowing the local language is useful for a deeper connect with the local culture, people and experience.

Language immersion refers to the method of learning a language by thoroughly immersing oneself in it, by using it as the medium of instruction for another course. Language immersion courses were made popular in Canada and the USA after the 1960s. In South Africa too, there are multiple Afrikaans language immersion courses, as well multitudes of quality language schools for learning Zulu. A huge number of domestic, as well as foreign students, enroll in these classes every year for learning Zulu or Afrikaans.
