Forensic Science Education in Argentina

Forensic Science is a very important area of study, one that is offered by many of Argentina’s largest universities, including the University of Buenos Aires.  Founded in 1821, the University of Buenos Aires is renowned for its academic excellence and represents a highly recognized place for higher education.

The Forensic Science program at the University of Buenos Aires is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in the field following graduation, working with other trained professionals conducting criminal investigations.  A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required to become a forensic scientist, although some specialties within the discipline, such as forensic psychology and lab technology, may require at least some graduate work depending on the institution.  A Master’s degree might also be useful for specialized areas such as DNA analysis and ballistics.  Undergraduate programs in forensic science include courses across a wide range of areas, including biochemistry, toxicology and criminal justice.  Students are also required to participate in lab work and fulfill an internship as part of their program.

Because Forensic Science is such a broad field of study, there are a countless number of career opportunities for qualified graduates.  Students who successfully complete the program go on to participate in careers such as facial reconstruction artists, criminalists, crime scene investigators, forensic multimedia analysts, forensic psychologists and forensic archaeologists, among others positions.
