Travel and Tourism in Spain


Spain is one of Europe's most popular tourist destinations; also the attraction of Spain's climate, culture, beauty, cost and standard of living brings record numbers of émigrés to relocate to its shores every year. When people think of Spain, they imagine bullfighters, flamenco dancers, tapas, beaches and fiesta. Spain´s exciting culture has been influenced by the many people who conquered the country over thousands of years. Evidence of their cultures can be seen everywhere, If your a local or just spending your holidays in Spain you will not be short of something to discover with ancient ruins and castles that dot the landscape; in the art, music and folk dances enjoyed in different regions; in the festivals, called fiestas, celebrated throughout the year; and in the languages spoken around Spain.Castilian or Spanish is the official language of Spain. However, there are several other languages that people speak such as Galician, Catalonian, Basque and Valencian.

Spain fills most of the Iberian Peninsula, a large chunk of land that forms the westernmost edge of Europe. The peninsula is almost completely surrounded by water. To the north, a chain of high and rugged mountains called the Pyrenees divides Spain from France. In the past, these mountains made contact between Spain and rest of Europe difficult.

Spain is the third-largest country in Europe. It has fertile river valleys, sunny beaches, and hot, desertlike regions. Its varied climate and landscape mean that Spain has more types of plants than any other European country. While farming is still important to the country´s economy, major industries such as car manufacturing and tourism now add to Spain´s wealth.

Spain a large number of museums, galleries, monuments and other fascinating places of interest, and as a country, is full of great architectural history. Spanish cuisine consists of a great variety of dishes which stem from differences in geography, culture and climate. It is heavily influenced by seafood available from the waters that surround the country, and reflects the country's deep Mediterranean roots.
