The medical projects we organise provide our volunteers with an incredibly interesting and eye opening experience. They are able to observe how the medical process works in a developing country, and more than that, they are actively involved in it.
Those who are looking to study medicine at university will find that by shadowing doctors and watching medical procedures they will learn a great amount on a placement and gain experience that would simply not be possible in their home country. The project is also open to elective students and depending on their level of experience it may be possible to assist on a practical level.
The doctors and nurses with whom the volunteers work really enjoy the cultural exchange that is brought by the volunteers and are more than happy for you to be involved in most aspects of their work in the hospital. This program is located in Shandong Province and you can teach conversational English at a primary or secondary level. The China teaching program is unique among the programs that we offer. Education is regarded extremely important so children are sent from the local villages into the cities to be schooled. The schools are well resourced and volunteers are sought in order to help with conversational English. It is the wish of the Chinese nation to become bilingual.
The type of teaching you'll be expected to do will consist of helping the students practice comprehension and pronunciation. You may be needed to do a little more, but if so, you'll be guided by the teachers and school principal. You are the sole teacher in the classroom. There are Chinese teachers of English in the schools that also take these students for English on other aspects of the language. For this reason your lessons should have a practical approach focusing on comprehension and building confidence in the student's English speaking skills. This program is located in Shandong Province and you can teach conversational English at a primary or secondary level.
