SFEL combines an Eco-Lodge, Restaurant, Farm and Permaculture Design training centre. It also offers a series of Cultural Immersion Programs, giving an in depth view of the fascinating local Konso culture through lectures, workshops, community based activities and trekking trails, all lead by Konso community members.
We are an oasis of green sitting amongst the dusty hills of Konso, a land of proud and simple, solid folk, with hoary palms and wooden arms, who hoist and toil through their days to push that rolling rock, the wheel of life, ever on and up around, amongst those rocky rugged slopes, on the edge of the Great Rift Valley. We at Strawberry Fields invite you to Konso, to participate in a project of many grand ambitions, a forum for progression, where the community of Konso meets the community of planet earth, to discuss, plan and share ideas and get down to work together, or just to relax, enjoy and discover something new about humanity…...
Many placements will appreciate you helping with some informal English lessons.
Volunteers also organize occasional trips out from the orphanage and sometimes assist with fundraising events. We also work with a local organization that arranges activities like games and sports for street children. These extra activities usually run a couple of times during the week and on Saturdays and all volunteers can choose to get involved.

Despite the rapid growth of Addis Ababa and the emergence of a small Ethiopian middle class, over three quarters of Ethiopians still live on less than $1 a day. It is also estimated by the UN that since the AIDS epidemic began almost one million Ethiopian children have been orphaned.
Care & Community volunteers in Ethiopia work in orphanages and care homes in the capital. The children who have made it to these homes crave the love and affection that volunteers have the time and energy to give. Whether you are helping a child to learn to count, organizing a game of catch or letting a child braid your hair, you will make a difference to the quality of their daily lives.
