MondoChallenge Sri Lanka Kandy

Description:
Temples, schools and an orphanage near Kandy - In the beautiful hill region of Kandy we are working in various rural Buddhist temples. These temples provide not only a place to worship but also a community centre. In Manikhinna, Digana, Sarasavigama and Ranawane, volunteers work in pre-schools and primary education while in Pilimathalawa, volunteers offer primary school and adult education classes involving many of the monks. Volunteers also help out at Bowalawatte School and a Buddhist orphanage at Sarana Savena. Schools on the south coast - Helping students regain some normality in their lives after the devastating 2004 tsunami has been the main focus of the work in this area. Current projects involve work in primary schools on the south west coast....

Volunteer in Sri Lanka and marvel at the The jewel of the Indian Ocean.
Organization:Location:
i-to-i Sri Lanka Colombo
Qualifications:
Volunteer in Sri Lanka and you may become involved in a variety of activities, including teaching English, fundraising, organising projects and workshops, and collecting data about Tsunami-affected families. Your schedule will be flexible and will depend on the needs of the project. You may be asked to provide general assistance to the project coordinator, and you may occasionally be required to help out with office administration. Your help is needed for humanitarian work in Sri Lanka at a range of worthwhile projects which fall under the care of a small NGO. Working primarily with children, you could assist orphaned and underprivileged youngsters, helping them to learn English and other life skills. The organisation also offers practical support for tsunami-affected families, helping them to restore their lives. The NGO is based in Colombo, but the organisation covers a range of projects located on the south-west coast of Sri Lanka, from Wadduwa to Tangalle.
Description:
Volunteer in Sri Lanka and marvel at the The jewel of the Indian Ocean. Sri Lanka is small but full of beautiful historical and religious sites as well as lush hill country and stretches of fabulous beach. Sri Lanka was devastated by the recent Tsunami, and i-to-i volunteers are doing hands-on relief work to help the island and its people recover. We've added a new community development volunteer project in Colombo, and your help is urgently needed at refugee and outreach centres. The warm smiles and acceptance of adults and children alike will make any placement here worthwhile. Sri Lanka is a pearl dropped into the Indian Ocean, situated slightly off the south east coast of India. Rolling plains at its shoreline grow to the tea plantations and finally to the hills of Piduruthalagala, where tropical forests flourish with indigenous wildlife. If it’s city life you want, Colombo will certainly awaken your senses. Our media projects offer budding journalists good stories and inspiration in the chaos of a metropolis sprawling with markets and overrun by rickshaws and cows. Sri Lanka’s pace is gentler than that of neighbouring India, but Colombo is in a world of its own. Outside of the city in the hill-country, our overseas volunteers live in serene rural villages, away from the bustle and noise. Here you could be taking part in valuable volunteer projects in schools, orphanages or animal sanctuaries...
