Bhaktapur is an ancient city in the Kathmandu Valley, renowned for its elegant art, fabulous culture and colorful festivals. Known as Nepal’s “Open museum", the city is closed to all cars, taxi, rickshaws and is a true walkers paradise. Although Bhaktapur is less than 10 miles from Kathmandu, it gives off a feeling of ancient times given the ambiance of traditional homes, temples, and peaceful environment.
Bhaktapur has more temples per square foot than both Patan or Kathmandu, and is listed as a Worlds Heritage site listed by the UNESCO. Visitors can spend hours wandering the small winding streets and outdoor squares such as the Durbar Square, a fascinating structure of palace having 55 windows, and now home to the National ional Art Gallery.

We offer the following programs in Bhaktapur:
Children’s Home/Orphanage: Volunteer in a local orphanage, home to over 30 children, boys and girls ages infants to 16 yrs old. These children are orphans, some have been abandoned, and some have parents but still require extra support.
Volunteers help with teaching English, caring for infants, meal preparation, arranging sports, creating games and teaching of vocational skills. Prior experience not necessary, volunteers should have a lot of patience, an open mind and a sense of compassion.
Program Includes: Airport transportation on arrival in Kathmandu to Bhaktapur, in-country orientation and project briefing with ABV Project Director, placement in program, Meals and accommodations with a local host family nearby to the project site, Support of on-site Project Director, departure transfer at the end of the program.

Kathmandu is a captivating place. It is the capital and largest city of Nepal, and offers visitors a mix of the modern life and ancient culture. The city is situated in Kathmandu Valley , along with the cities of Patan and Bhaktapur where our other volunteer programs are located. A visit to Kathmandu is like stepping back into the 12th century. Parts of this bustling city are very crowded and run down, and other areas are architecturally stunning and home to numerous notable Hindi and Buddhist temples, monkeys, and ancient buildings.
Kathmandu is the gateway to the Himalayans and attracts hikers and climbers from around the world. There are numerous things to see and do around Kathmandu. Among the highlights are the Three Goddesses Temple, Durbar Square, Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Mahakala Temple, Pasupatinath and Bodhnath and shopping and bargaining around the touristy Thamel area.
Today, Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world, most people living on less than $1000 a year. Almost 80% of the population still makes a living from agriculture. The rate of unemployment is almost 50% and poverty levels are very rampant. Nepal’s youth is quite large, accounting for almost half of the population. Many children (mainly girls) are orphaned, abandoned, homeless and living on the streets. Our programs in Kathmandu work with an orphanage home to over 100 girl, providing meals, a place to live and vocation skills to create a better future. Join us today!

The orphanage offers a full range of services for the girls with separate rooms for studying, dining, sleeping, and bathing. In addition, auxiliary services such as a clinic and isolation room for the sick children, a beautiful playground, and activities room all within a secured and child-friendly environment. Volunteers help with teaching English, caring for infants, meal preparation and teaching of vocational skills such as sewing, computers, farming – assets needed to building a sustainable future for these woman and girls. Prior experience not necessary, volunteers should have a lot of patience, an open mind and a sense of compassion.

Volunteer Abroad in Nepal - Patan
The lovely little city of Lalitpur, also known as Patan, is located about 20 minutes from downtown Kathmandu. Lalitpur (Patan) is believed to have been founded in the third century B.C, and is one of the oldest cities in the Kathmandu Valley. Lalitpur is said to be the most beautiful among the three royal cities alongside Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. The city is known for its finest tradition of arts and crafts and its rich cultural heritage. Most of the locals are engaged in various trades, especially in traditional handicraft and cottage industries. Lalitpur in fact is the only town in entire Nepal that has produced the highest number of most talented artists and finest craftsman ever recorded in Nepalese art history. The fine temples and places of worship draw thousands of visitors each year.

Orphanage Assistance - Volunteer are needed to help at a local children’s home which houses 100 children; infants to 16 yrs old. These children are orphans, some have been abandoned, and some have parents but still require extra support. The orphanage strives to provide a better future for some of the most vulnerable children in Nepal. As a volunteer, you will primarily assist with the daily care of the kids; including bathing, feeding and clothing. You can work with infants and toddlers, and also older school age children. Volunteers can teach English, help with homework and exam preparation, and to simply engage the kids in extracurricular activities. You can arrange activities, create arts & crafts projects and share your time and caring with these wonderful children. Volunteers also assist the local staff with administration and planning duties. Prior experience not necessary, volunteers should have a lot of patience, an open mind and a sense of compassion.
Program Includes: Accommodation and meals with a local host family. Airport transfers on arrival and departure in Katmandu. Our local Project Coordinator will provide an orientation tour of Kathmandu arrival, project briefing, an introduction to the children’s home staff and children....

Welcome to Tuhura Home Nepal
Tuhura Home Nepal is a non-profit social welfare charitable trust dedicated to providing a safe place for under-privileged children to play and be educated, while also supporting the rural development of the village in which they live.
We are a small organization with big goals and high ideals. We receive no financial support from the Nepalese Government and we are not affiliated with any political organizations. Our centre and associated development projects are funded solely by private donations. In order to expand and reach out to more children, and struggling families, we need your generous support either by volunteering, donating or sponsoring.
Our childrens' day care centre is based in Ramkot, a traditional rural village 7km from the heart of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The center consists of one building housing three classrooms, one separate building which functions as the kitchen and dining room, an open plan floor which we use for as an indoor play area during monsoon time, and a large garden for outdoor activities.
At the moment our childrens' day care centre provides education, food and support for more than 400 children and employs a number of full and part time staff from the local village.
Future projects include renovating the existing buildings, refurbishment of the kitchen and dining room, construction of new classrooms and the building a playground with basic play equiptment.
Tuhura Home Nepal also works with local villagers supporting community projects and the development of the village infrastructure. Future projects include the building of an access road and improvements to the water supply system. All works will be undertaken by the local villagers using traditional methods and materials.

Environmental awareness & conservation program- you can create or help with projects that educate local communities on conservation, recycling and other environmental issues that pertain specifically to Nepal.
