Nove Blue Sky International is a non-for profit organization that was started back in 2004 by a group young visionary youths. The aim for the organization is to address challenges that face the community through sensitization and training. Help the youth through education and socialization and also provide shelter for special needs children. The organization is located in Nansana town off hoima road a suburb of Kampala city where the head quarters are found. The head office acts as a home for special needs children. This branch of the organization is Blue sky Education Center. The aim for the center is to help special needs children enjoy a friendly atmosphere and also feel inclusive. The organization has got five programmes: Blue Sky Education Center. Blue Sky Environmental conservation programme Blue Sky Health care Programme Blue Sky Community Based Programme Blue Sky Music and Arts programme At the education center these children get the same treatment as one would to the mentally able children and are given the skills that can help them feel inclusive and contribute in a home. The center offers reading, writing and simple arithmetic skills and home management skills. In addition to this computer training is also offered at the center. The special needs children are paired up with peer partners also called the shepherds (youths form with in the community) these help them with the learning. The school offers skills like brick lying and practical art and building with help of professionals. The aim of this arrangement is to enable learner get jobs and increase on their level of skills. These skills are given to the group known as the shepherds these are the regular youths that study at the center and they help the special needs student get along. The school also offer dance classes for the children these are carried out by the school staff and occasionally the school holds open day where people come and witness what the children’s talent on stage. Under the environmental conservation program the organization takes volunteers out in the village for work camps in which foreign volunteers and local volunteer youths engage in activities like tree planting, learning environmental conservation methods, agriculture and animal husbandry. Blue Sky Health care programme engages volunteers in study groups with the local community and youths hosted by volunteer practicing Nurses and Doctors. The volunteer Nurses and Doctors educate people about STI and HIV Aids prevention and Counseling, Malaria prevention, Peer counseling. Also practicing Nurses are sent out to work with professional doctors at different clinic and health centers. Blue Sky Community based Programme under this programme volunteers engage with the community by cleaning around the communities, sharing knowledge with the community on pertinent issues, sensitization on democracy. These are carried out in partnership with local interact and social clubs and in different schools around the country.l5 Blue Sky Music and Art programme engages volunteers in sharing talent through music and dance, playing musical instruments and other related arts. The organization welcomes volunteers to each and every one of theses programmes and it’s up to the volunteers to choose what they want to engage in. The organization has been blessed with a number of volunteer from Germany, Korea and Netherlands currently. These volunteers have been coming in to help through recent volunteers that have worked at the organization. The organization recently acquired land in Kakiiri with the help of the well wishers. The organization is building a demonstration farm that will be used for Agro-based training for people within the community and also build a much bigger education center for the or organization. Nove blue sky international in partnership with community health centers around the country has been able to hold counseling, health care and AIDS workshops for the youth and communities in the past we have hosted a group of nurses from Ireland and Britain. These people where a blessing to the community and also a joy for special needs children at the center. In the future we intend to have more of such Nurses and Doctors come to work at the school also Volunteer practicing Nurses. The organization is always open to new volunteers both short term volunteers (STVs) staying up for 1-4 months and long term (LTVs) that stay for 6months-1year or even more. The volunteers are free to choose a program that best suites them at the end of which they get certificates for the programs they worked on and the main certificate of Blue sky International. The above programs run at the organization except for the education center that breaks off for a month after a school term elapses. The center works on a three-term calendar throughout the year. So when the children break off for holidays then volunteers can choose to join another work program or visit some tourist locations. The organization over the years has been running on the donations both in money and kind and also staff sacrifice and well wishers from the community and fees paid by parents of special needs children that stands at 300,000 shilling close to ($150). The foreign volunteers have also helped the school enormously through donations in money and kind. This has been achieved through transparency of the organizational staff with both the volunteers and community. The staff of Nove Blue Sky International humbly requests for your partnership, support and cooperation in bettering the organizations programs with the hopes of positively impacting on the communities through development and youth empowerment. Our hope is that by fostering such partnerships both our organizations will be able to appeal to many youths and a wider community hence changing many lives. Our partner in Uganda has projects based in Mukono Town and within nearby villages. All projects are aimed at providing primary and secondary education to needy children, community outreach and counseling, and adult literacy. Most projects have little or no resources, so foreign volunteers with different ideas and experiences are highly valued. Please note that all projects require volunteers who are self-starters and can conduct their daily activities with minimal supervision. Specific daily schedules and activities will be determined between volunteers and their coordinator upon arrival. 3 meals are provided each day which will consist of local foods, such as matooke (mashed plantain), posho (corn bread), potatoes, and rice. They are generally served with beef, chicken, fish, beans, or groundnut sauce. Bread, eggs and fruits are also available for breakfast....
