ABC Serrano is a shopping centre in the Salamanca district of Madrid<\/a>, housed in the former headquarters of the newspaper ABC. It runs through the block between Calle de Serrano and Paseo de la Castellana and keeps a neo-Mud\u00e9jar fa\u00e7ade from the end of the 19th century. This post covers the history of the building, what is inside in 2026, opening hours, parking and how to get there.<\/p>\n

The building and its history<\/h2>\n

The centre is made up of three buildings. The oldest, facing Calle de Serrano, was designed by L\u00f3pez de Salaverry and built in 1899 for the magazine Blanco y Negro. In 1926 it was extended as far as Paseo de la Castellana, a work the centre attributes to An\u00edbal Gonz\u00e1lez and Anasagasti, and a third, intermediate building parallel to the Castellana followed in 1932.<\/p>\n

The complex was the seat of Prensa Espa\u00f1ola, the publisher of Blanco y Negro and of the newspaper ABC, until 1989. From that year the architect Mariano Bay\u00f3n \u00c1lvarez turned it into a shopping centre, creating an interior street that links Calle de Serrano with Paseo de la Castellana. The name joins the newspaper and the street. The centre has kept the neo-Mud\u00e9jar style on one of its fa\u00e7ades.<\/p>\n

What is inside in 2026<\/h2>\n

The shop mix is broader than fashion. In October 2026 the centre’s own directory lists shops and services on floors from -2 to 6. The ground floor has shops such as Ka Internacional and Pensacola and the \u00darsula Caf\u00e9. The first floor has everyday services, including dry cleaning and clothing alterations, and ABC Arcade. The second floor has a Mercadona supermarket and Sweet Space. The fourth floor includes Torcuato Restaurante, ABC Espacio occupies parts of floors 4 to 6, and David Lloyd Serrano is on floor 6.<\/p>\n

Two of the tenants are leisure venues rather than shops. ABC Arcade recreates the amusement arcades of the 1980s. Sweet Space is an interactive museum about sweets with nine themed rooms; Madrid’s tourist board lists general admission from \u20ac15, children aged 4 to 12 from \u20ac12 and a reduced ticket of \u20ac9 that covers university students, with opening from 10:30 am to 7:30 pm every day. The tourist board also notes that the centre has a terrace with views over the city.<\/p>\n

Services listed by the centre include Wi-Fi, a nursing room, cash machines, lost property, a parcel locker area on the first floor and eight charging points for electric cars. Pets are allowed in all common areas.<\/p>\n

Opening hours<\/h2>\n

The shops open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 21:00, and the supermarket from 9:00 to 21:30. For Sundays and public holidays the centre asks visitors to check, and it publishes the holidays on which it opens and closes. For the end of 2026 the opening days are Monday 7 December and the Sundays 13, 20 and 27 December and 3 January 2027. The centre closes on 12 October, 2 and 9 November, 8 and 25 December, 1 January and 6 January. Getting there and parking<\/h2>\n
