You are here: Countries / Congo

The Republic of the Congo enjoys a tropical climate as it lies in the equator. Located in western Africa, Congo experiences hot temperature and high humidity constantly all throughout the year. The country’s average temperature during the day is 24˚C and 18˚C at night. Its capital city, Brazzaville, has temperature ranging from 17˚C to 28˚C during the wet season and 23˚C to 33˚C during the dry season. It is wettest in the month of July and driest in the month of April.

The Republic of Congo is divided into four climatic regions, each having different topographic characteristics: (1) the coastal plains which extends from the Mayombe mountains going inland to the Atlantic coastline; (2) the Niari Valley area, which they consider as the land having the best soil in the country, located in the southern part of the Congo; (3) the Central Highlands, or the Bateke Plateau, which is found between the Niari River and the Ogoove River; and (4) the Zaire River basin found in the north where there are flood plains and savannahs in the southern and northern areas, respectively.

As it is found in the equator, the country of the Congo is divided into two regions namely the north and the south of the equator. Dry months in the north of the equator are from December to February while it is from April to October in the south. On the other hand, the wet season in the north of the equator is from April to October while it is from November to March in the south. At that, it is suggested that it is best to visit the country during the months of June up to September.
