Upon checking and researching on the historical background of the Republic of the Congo, it is to be expected that there are quite a number of ancient historical sites which can still be preserved up to the present. With hundreds of years under the French rule and being inhabited by many foreign settlers, the country of Congo has been a nest to different kinds of people with different cultures and beliefs. Though paganism is still dominant in the country, there are also some religious historical sites which can be dated way back the spread of Christianity.

St. Anne’s Basilica in Brazzaville was built in the year 1949 by a Frenchman named Roger Erell. It is well known for its unique architectural design and green-tiled roof. The same person built the mansion for Charles de Gaulle during the Second World War. Charles de Gaulle was the man behind the Free France Movement and this mansion used to be his home.

The Odzala National Park (Parc Nationale de Odzala) is the most famous park in the country. It has one of the most extraordinary tropical forest ecosystems throughout the world. This park features animals which live in their natural habitat. One can see gorillas, elephants and monkeys inside the park.

The Gorges of Diossa is also a very popular tourist destination in the Congo because of its being a natural wonder. The beautifully formed cliffs are formed naturally by the land, sea, and wind.

The Congo River rapids, the Loufoulakari Falls, and the Trou de Dieu are some of the famous water tourist destinations in the country.
