You are here: Countries / Czech Republic

The official language in Czech Republic is the Czech language which is spoken by Czechs nationally and globally. Czech language is rooted from the West Slavic language (a combination of Czech, Polish, Slovak, Sorbian, and Kashubian). Czech is also spoken across various countries such as Austria, Ukraine, Germany, Croatia, and Western Romania. 96% of the Czech Republic’s population speaks the language. However, other nationalities who transferred in the country also speak the native language.

Czech language is rooted back in 10th century when it began to separate from the Slavonic language. Moreover, during the Middle Ages, literature had emerged, developed, and widened the use of the language throughout the country. As the Bohemian state had expanded, the Czech language had also spread around nations; beyond the borders of the Czech Republic.

Czech and Slovak have similar language styles, thus the speakers can understand both the language and the written works despite some of their differences. Any tourist can hire an interpreter as they roam around the country and discover the country’s remarkable places. However, English is also spoken in the country.

Variants of dialects are also present in the country dividing it into Common Czech and the dialect from Moravia and Silesia. The Common Czech is spoken widely in Bohemia.

Forms and styles of the Czech language originate in Slavic languages; thus, Czech and some Slavic languages have the branches of Indo-European styles. Word order in Czech is mostly similar to the English language.

Other languages are also used in the country such as Slovak, German, Polish, and Romany.
