The country of Djibouti experiences an arid climate characterized by extremely hot and dry weather. Located in East Africa, bordering the countries of Ethiopia in the West, Somalia in the Southeast, and Eritrea in the North, and the waters of Gulf of Aden in the East and the Red Sea in the Northeast, Djibouti’s climate is affected by its geographic location and the winds that come across the country during every season.

Relative humidity is high all year round but precipitation is very low in Djibouti. During the months of October up until April, the weather is slightly cooler than the usual where small amount of rainfall can be experienced. Most rainfall comes in March where rain pours a little heavier for about 2 days. It is driest in the month of June where rainfall is very scanty.

As it is located in the equatorial tropical region, Djibouti is considered as one of the hottest countries in the world. It is hot in the months of June up to September where temperature averages at 38oC and peaks at 45oC. During this season, the capital city, Djibouti, experiences cooler days with an average of 31oC since it is found in the coast, while the rest of the country, especially in the deserts, averages 40oC. It is hottest in July where temperature averages 41oC and the hot Khamsin wind blows throughout the area.

The best time to visit Djibouti is from December to January as temperature averages 23oC which will ensure you one great trip.
