Best places to visit in Ethiopia

You are here: Countries / Ethiopia

Ethiopia is said to be one of the oldest countries in the world. In fact, it is believed that the Homo sapiens (the first creatures that resembled the modern human being) existed in the safaris of Ethiopia. Hence, when in the country, should expect to find relics not only of the remains of our ancestors but of the civilizations that thrived in the horn of Africa.

Ethiopia is the proud holder of the world record for the most UNESCO heritage sites within Africa so tourists are not going to run out of places to visit and relics to adore. Mother Nature also carved her own landmarks in Ethiopia. A lot of caves are present in this part of the world and most of them opened to the public to be explored. The most popular of all these caves is the Dire Diwa which is renowned as the place where the first human civilization settled in. Of course, there are also the mountains of Simien, which is now a national park, for those who wants to hike and witness the magnificence of Bale plateau. The mountain of Simien also overlooks the Lalibela countryside. Visitors are also allowed to fish in the rivers within the mountain, a great way to relax and kill time while waiting for that fish to bite the bait and be taken home for dinner.

As with any other part of Africa, Ethiopia has a vast safari. In here, 14 wildlife reserves are found. The great thing is that visitors and tourists get to see lions and other beasts in their natural habitat. Yet for those who just don’t have the time to do any outdoor activities or visit places in Ethiopia the mercato is a great place to shop at and look for something to remind one of the ancient country.
