Visa application requirements for Ethiopia

Ethiopia is one of the most ancient countries in the world. Its official name is Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. Tourists need Ethiopian visa in visiting the country.  There are several types of visas in the country. These are tourist visa, business visa and transit visa.

Tourist visa are for those who plan to have a vacation in the country. On the other hand, business visa is for individuals who are undertaking business or any work in the country. Furthermore, transit visa is available for individuals passing through Ethiopia and into another destination.

The length of validity of the visa depends on the purpose of the visa. For tourist and business visa, a single entry is valid for 30 days. Multiple entry visas may be valid for 3 months or 6 months of stay. However, business visa may be valid for 1 year.  For transit purposes, there is a single transit and a double transit visas.

There are several ways to obtain visas in Ethiopia.  You can apply for a visa in person through visiting an Ethiopian Embassy. The processing of visa may take 2-3 working days.  You can also obtain a visa upon arrival or by post at Addis Ababa airport.  Tourist visas that are being issued at the airport are for those foreigners coming from countries with no Ethiopian mission as well as to foreigners that are residents of the following countries;  Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, UK and USA.
