Health Care, Disease Control, Crime and Safety in Haiti

You are here: Countries / Haiti

Haiti has still a long way to go if they are to improve health conditions in the country. Right now, Haiti is on the bottom of world rankings in terms of health indicators.

The reason why Haiti’s has low world rankings is because of having poor and deficient sanitation systems, inadequate national health programs and poor nutrition.

Poor and deficient sanitation systems mean that human wastes such as fecal matter and urine may not have proper infrastructure to be properly disposed of. Leaving, this uncheck would always give infectious diseases a high probability of originating and breaking out.

Inadequate national health programs have also contributed to the health woes in the country because the country is so corrupt that the government is always waiting for international aid like the World Health Organization (WHO), UN and other humanitarian groups to come to the rescue.  Haiti’s health program is so grim that there are only about 25 doctors and 11 nurses that service every 100,000 persons. According to WHO, only 43% of the recommended vaccination programs were received by the population.

Haiti’s is also host to 7,200 death cases in 2007 and 120,000 live cases, one of the highest numbers in the world. Every developed nation gives a warning to their citizens wishing to go to Haiti about the AIDS condition of the country. The government should have at least gone out with an educational campaign on contacting AIDS because if the government did, probably, the numbers would have been drastically lower.

Poor nutrition is another thing that is widespread for 80% of the population. A lot of Haitians are getting sick because of sheer poverty. Lots of people are suffering from diseases brought about by lack of vitamins and minerals.
