You are here: Countries / Liechtenstein

The Liechtenstein government has issued the following situational information for foreign nationals desiring to enter the country: (a) a complete customs union is maintained by the country with Switzerland for passport and visa purposes, (b) the country does not issue its own visas as its represented by Switzerland in embassies anywhere in the world, (c) border formalities are not needed to cross the border between Switzerland and Liechtenstein, (d) border guards do not stamp passport of traveler entering through the Feldkireh-Austria, (e) a flight can be taken direct to the Zurich airport near the country, and (f) the popular entry point for a traveler is Friedrichshafen in Germany which is served by low-cost airlines.

Under entry requirements shared by Liechtenstein and Switzerland, all foreign nationals, including United States citizens, are required of a visa to travel to the country. An ordinance signed by both countries in January 1998 requires a passport from a traveler entering the country in accordance with the provisions of the bilateral and multilateral agreements. The visa requirements provide for the submission by the foreign national of an application to the Swiss representative office in Austria where it will be processed or acted upon.

American citizens entering Liechtenstein are required of a valid passport with a blank visa page and a 6-month validity, but they are otherwise not required to secure a visa in advance of their travel to the country, and can even be allowed a stay of up to 90 days without a visa.
