Visa application requirements for Luxembourg

You are here: Countries / Luxembourg

Citizens of select countries may enter Luxembourg without a visa and stay for at most three months, provided that they (1) have a valid national identity card (for citizens of Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, among others); (2) a valid passport without a visa (for citizens of the previously mentioned countries, some Asian countries, and others more). For a complete listing of countries and citizens that may avail of this privilege, it is best to contact or visit the nearest concerned embassy.

Apart from citizenship, there are several other factors that may exempt a visitor from needing a visa for entry.

• Visitors having any one of the following documents on hand: a United Nations permit; NATO identity papers or those issued by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe; Personal military identity card (1) presented with a travel order by NATO (or any other fit administrative authority) or (2) issued by the Europe-based American or Canadian militaries presented with a leave of absence permit; a permit from the Customs Cooperation Council. • Visitors with flight crew license issued in conformity with the International Air Services Transit Agreement (Chicago, 1944) • Visitors with a valid refugee travel permit issued in conformity with the Geneva Convention (1951) • Visitors joining a school trip, with a school list produced by a member state of the European Union • Visitors with travel documents indicating citizenship from the riverside states of Rhine • Visitors with a residence permit and valid travel documents issued by a member of the Schengen States

If none of these apply, a respective visa is required for entry to Luxembourg. Short stays for studying or other similar purposes require an additional permit from the Immigration Service.
