The Weather and Climate in Romania

You are here: Countries / Romania

Due to its position on the southeastern part of the European continent, Romania’s climate ranges from temperate to continental. The country has 4 distinct seasons – spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The geographical features of the country also influence the climate in most regions. The mountains obstruct the continental influences of the enormous plain to the north of Ukraine resulting to frosty winters and less rain, and the Black Sea causes a milder, maritime weather.

Spring in the country is generally pleasant characterized by cool mornings and nights and temperate days. Summers in Romania (from June to August) are normally very warm. The capital city Bucharest experiences temperatures between 18°C (64°F) and 29°C (84°F). Climate of high-lying areas may decline significantly even during summers. Autumn is dry and cool. Trees and fields produce colorful foliage and perfect for traveling tourists. Winters in the country are extremely cold. Weather in low-lying areas can experience 3°C (36°F) on the average to as low as -15°C (5°F).
