A journey to the Seychelles archipelago of 115 beautiful islands is a wonderful trip to a legendary beauty in the Indian Ocean. It only occupies a land area of 455 sq. km with a 1.4 sq. km Exclusive Economic Zone. It is situated 1,600 km east of Kenya. The tropical islands are comprised of granite or coral. Most people are living in the Mahe Islands group which are mostly granitic. Victoria is the capital city and is the only town in the country. It is also where the only port could be found.
The country is officially known as the Republic of Seychelles. It is a democratic republic with President James Michel as its current leader. They have a unicameral legislature and a multiparty system.
The people of Seychelles are descendants of French settlers and freed African slaves brought to the country by the British. Creole is the national language while English and French are also taught in school. Currently, the population stands to more than 88,000. Most people are Roman Catholics and the biggest religious minorities are the Anglicans.
Seychelles is regarded as a good economic country with tourism, fishing, copra, vanilla processing and boat building as major industries. The official currency is Seychelles Rupee (SCR).
Climate is good all throughout the year. The people are enjoying a pleasant tropical marine climate with the country outside of the typhoon belt.
