The best time to visit the Republic of the Sudan is between the winter months of December and January when the country’s average high temperature is 34˚C (94˚F). The second best time to travel to the country is November or between the summer months of February and April with a temperature of 35˚C (95˚F) and when there are pleasant nights at 21˚C (70˚F) in temperature. Some tourists who have been to the country during the hot season can tell that the worst time to visit is between May and June with a daily temperature of 49˚C (120˚F) when haboobs, or dust storms can hit the country, especially Central Sudan. While the winter temperature in the desert zones, especially after sunset, falls to 4.4˚C (40˚F) the temperature in the hot season often exceeds 43.3˚C or 110˚F.

The rainy season starts in July and September but near the country’s border with Zaire, the rainy season takes on a 9-month stretch, bringing in rainfall average of 1,142mm per year. A 3-month rainy season in the capital city Khartoum has an average of 161mm of rainfall per year, compared to the national average annual rainfall of 164mm (6.5 in.) per year or 14mm (0,5 in.) per month.

While the average temperature in Khartoum is 26.7˚C (80˚F), the national average temperature is 29.8˚C (86˚F). The highest monthly average high temperature is 42˚C (108˚F) and the lowest monthly average low temperature is 16˚C (61˚F). No rainfall takes place from January to March and in November to December, but the wettest weather is in August with 72mm (2.8 in.) of rainfall across seven days.
