Best places to visit in Slovenia

You are here: Countries / Slovenia

Slovenia takes pride in its heritage and natural exquisiteness.  From location to location, every visitor is sure to witness and be captivated by the Republic’s healthy mix of conservative and contemporary culture.

Ljubljana, the capital, is one of the best places to visit.  Slovenia’s National Museum, the National Gallery, the Modern Art Gallery, and the City Museum are all found in this single area.  The capital is also known as Plecnik’s Ljubljana, in honor of Plecnik, the city’s architect.  He laid out the streets, the parks, the city’s squares, and even designed some of the city’s magnificent structures.  Hence, Ljubljana will always be marked by the master’s signature.

The Republic of Slovenia is also notable for its mountain ranges and exquisite scenery.  A good number of people, both locals and foreigners, come to Slovenia to enjoy their mountain sports like skiing and hiking.  The Kranjska Gora, found along the Julian Alps or the “Sunny Alps”, is an excellent venue for outdoor sports.  The landscape is good for paragliding, cycling, night sledging, or, in other words, for both summer and winter sports.

For visitors who prefer to explore Slovenia’s olden times, there are several perfect spots that will well serve this craving.  The Port of Koper is one of the top destinations where structures constructed as early as the 13th century can be found, such as the Romanesque Carmin Rotunda, built in 1317; the Town Tower, built in 1480; and the Cathedral, built sometime in the 15th century.  Equal in popularity is Lake Bled, where a neo-gothic Parish Church is found, as well as the Bled Castle.
