There are several attractive and remarkable places to visit in El Salvador. Some of the famous lakes in the country are Lake Güija (located on the boundary between El Salvador and Guatemala), Lake Ilopango (largest lake in the country and settled directly east of the San Salvador), Lake Coatepeque (a huge crater lake in the east area of the Coatepeque Caldera) and Lake Olomega (settled next to the city of Olomega and a huge lake in the southeastern area of the country).

The Joya de Cerén Archaeological Site is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site and situated in the Zapotitan Valley around 32 km northwest of San Salvador. In 600 A.D, it was a pre historic farming village that was buried underneath a volcanic eruption. The tentative lists of places on World Heritage include Cacaopera, Cara Sucia/El Imposible, Chalchuapa, Ciudad Vieja/La Bermuda, Gulf of Fonseca and Lake Guija.

Some of the best beaches in the country are Bahia de Jiquilisco (situated in the area of Usulutan), Costa Del (settled 65 km southwest of San Salvador in the area of La Paz and offers pleasant clubs and hotels) and Playa El Zunzal (settled around 40 minutes far-off San Salvador and known as one of the finest beaches for surfing, snorkelling and diving). Montecristo is the national park in the country and located in Santa Ana. It consists of green toucans, grey foxes, howler, jaguars, monkeys, quetzal birds, pumas, spiders and among others. Museums that are found in the country are El Museo Aja (located in Santa Ana and created on September 21, 2006) and Museo de la Palabra y la Imagen (sited in San Salvador and built in the early 1990s).
