Best places to visit in Togo

You are here: Countries / Togo

Togo has quiet beaches, beautiful hills and farmlands, as well as grasslands and waterfalls, making the country as an ideal destination for vacationers and tourists. It is located in Western Africa, on a narrow rectangle land property extending north from the Bight of Benin, and having a small coastline of 50 kilometers (31 miles). If you are a tourist in the country, you may first want to visit Lome, the capital city in the Gulf of Guinea, which is the only city in the country that has an international airport, the National Museum, a series of markets for avid shoppers, and a voodoo market or Fetish market that sells items serving as protection against evil. While in Lome, you can also visit the Grand Marche, a colorful but crowed marketplace where you can find an all-female group of marketers named “mama Benz” after their favorite motors.

In northeastern Togo, you can find Koutammakou, which is home to Betammariba tribe, known for its remarkable mud-tower houses. Close to the border with Benin is Aneho City which houses old buildings dating back to colonial times, and just two hours from Lome is Kpalime City known for its butterflies and has incredibly nice scenery and the highest mountain Mt. Agou 20 kilometers away. You may not afford to miss the Tamberma Valley in the northern part of the country also close to the Benin border, which has village clusters and several fortified towers connected by sturdy walls, or Togoville in the northern banks of Lake Togo, which is the center of local voodoo cult and various wares and handicrafts made by local artisans.
