Admission requirement for medical school in Russia

The admission process for medical studies in Russian universities is not as stressful as compared to learning institutions in other countries where hundreds of students apply for a small number of available slots in different schools of medicine.

As mentioned earlier, one does not need an entry exam to study medicine in the country. Foreign students wishing to apply to medical schools in the country have to present an application for a student visa to an embassy of the Russian Federation. Students also need to have done courses in chemistry, physics, biology, and English and received passing grades. They also need to have completed secondary school education and received a high-school diploma. Despite the fact that students can still learn in English, they are also expected to demonstrate familiarity in the Russian language or to take part in a Russian course. Students are also expected to submit a valid passport, HIV negative test and chest x-ray results.

It is important to note that students are not expected to take the TOEFL/IELTS exam to get admission in medical schools in the country.

Universities offering medicine in Russia

Russia is one of the countries with the most medical universities in the world. The medical schools in the country offer courses in pharmacy, physiotherapy, nursing, dentistry, and general medicine among others. These programs are offered in Russian, French, or English and at very affordable tuition fees. These programs offer learners access to state of the art hospitals, modern labs and a degree that is acknowledged by institutions such as UNESCO and the World Health Organization.

There are over 50 medical learning institutions throughout Russia. The two best and largest institutions offering medicine programs are Saint Petersburg State Medical Academy and I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy. Others include Izhevsk State Medical Academy, Ivanovo State Medical Academy, Irkutsk State Medical University, Habarovsk State Medical Institute, Cuvassia State University Medical Faculty, Altai State Medical University, Bashkir State Medical University, Chelyabinsk State Medical Academy, Institute of Medical Education, and Amur State Medical Academy among others.

Studying medicine in Russia takes six years to complete and the country provides a multi cultural environment to the learners. The curriculum of all the medical universities is revised and updated annually in accordance with the international standards. Medical students are also encouraged to take part in different conferences and seminars held in other learning institutions so as enable them acquire knowledge and experience in their field.
