About Language Immersion Courses in Russia

Are you thinking about studying a new language, but are having a bit of difficulty deciding the direction you’d like your studies to take?  Have you ever considered studying Russian, a language spoken by hundreds of millions of people in Russia and in countries beyond?  If you have, or of this sounds interesting, you may want to consider a full-immersion program, one in which you study the language while actually living in Russia.

Studying Russian in the land of its origin has a twofold benefit, and naturally the first of these is the effectiveness of this form of language acquisition.  According to language experts, there are no language-learning methods, including those programs touted in the media as “the fastest way to learn a new language,” that are as rapid or as effective as a full-immersion language program.

While living in Russia you’ll study under a native Russian instructor and have around the clock exposure to the Russian language.  This includes the classroom component, where class sizes are small and the instruction is intensive, and the many cultural excursions and enjoyable outings you’ll take, where every person you meet becomes a de-facto Russian language instructor.  Through this combination of methods you’ll be able to quickly master this intricate language, while simultaneously making many lasting new friendships and creating treasured memories.

This brings us to the second benefit of studying Russian in Russia:  the enjoyable and enriching adventures you’ll have along the way.  While language schools can be found throughout Russia, you’ll undoubtedly find the largest concentration in the country’s largest and most populous city, Moscow.

Moscow is the capital of Russia and the country’s most cosmopolitan city.  It is also where you’ll find the greatest number of interesting and educational sights, along with a slew of enjoyable diversions to fill your time.  Some of these include:

The Kremlin

Once the seat of the country’s communist leadership, the Kremlin is now a world-renowned museum, one of the world’s largest.  Visitors here can peruse the ancient state regalia of Russia, including priceless icons and the collective treasures of Russian Tsars, hidden away for centuries in the structure’s chambers and cathedrals.

Poklonnajo Mountain

Poklonnajo Mountain is considered the most important and significant monument in Russia and a must-see for international students.  Constructed to commemorate the victory of the Great Patriotic War, the massive monument is a Russian treasure, one that is situated in a large park (135 hectares) that is expertly landscaped and extremely inviting to visitors.

Bolshoi Theater

Save for the famous “La Scala” Theater in Milan, the Bolshoi is the largest theater in all of Europe.  Although the building itself is fairly new by comparison, the foundation dates back to January of 1825 and features an 8-column portico, atop of which sits the carriage of Apollon.  Visitors can take in a show at the Bolshoi, which presented the famous “Triumph of the Muses” at its inaugural event, or simply take a guided backstage tour with a knowledgeable guide.

Learning the Russian language can open up a world of opportunity both personally and professionally, and learning it while studying in Russia is not only the fastest track to mastery, but a rare chance to bask in this beautifully diverse culture—a culture unfortunately once despised by the United States due to differences in political ideology.
